Download from the Celtx Server

The Download button provides direct access to the Celtx Server for retrieving any project you have there, including ones that have been shared with you.

Source(s): Project Solutions

Browse Projects

Select the 'Browse' button to navigate to your directory and locate your desired project.

POW Announcements and Community News

We added two community boxes. One displays the Project of the Week (POW!) while the other provides news from the Celtx Community, including information about film festivals and contests.

CELTX FILES

Celtx Projects now Save as a dot Celtx file extension. Double clicking on a *.celtx file will launch Celtx.

Saving Existing Celtx Projects

A pre 995 Project will Save in 995 as a dot Celtx file. If you open the pre-995 Project from the Most Recent projects list on the Splash Page, your first Save will default to My Documents (Windows) or Documents (Mac).

If you open a pre-995 Project by using Browse, your computer will likely default on the first Save to the existing Celtx Project Folder. We recommend that you Save any exisiting Celtx Project to a new location on your hard drive.

Unzipping the Celtx File

The new *.celtx file is actually a zipped folder with a special wrapper to make it look like and behave like a standard computer file so. If needed, you can unzip the dot Celtx file by renaming the file with a dot zip file extension and then use any standard unzip application to gain access to individual Project documents.

PROJECT LIBRARY

The Project Library behaves similar to how it did in previous versions. We’ve added a new feature though that lets you drag and drop docs between Projects

Click, drag and drop any document from one Celtx Project Library to a second Celtx Project Library. The document, including any content, will be copied to the second Project.

THE EDITORS

We’ve added two new editors and improved three of the existing editors. All work in tandem with the TypeSet Feature to ensure precision formatting of each script type.

AV (Dual Column) - NEW!

A new dual column-AV editor supports documentary filmmaking, the creation of music videos and the making of general AV projects. AV Scripts are semi-formatted in the editor, and then converted in to the Dual Column format by the TypeSet feature.

AV Scripts have a linear, nested structure: Scene -> Shot -> Character & Dialog

Shot element uses type-ahead pre-populated with the following shot types:

  • Wide, Master
  • Medium
  • Close Up
  • Extreme Close Up
  • Cutaway
  • Cut-in
  • Two-Shot
  • Over-the-Shoulder
  • POV

Shots are grouped under a Scene (similar to storyboard)

Audio Play Editor - NEW!

A new editor dedicated to writing Audio Scripts has been added. Very handy for making Radio plays and podcasts.

  • Sound, Voice and Music elements populate with the prefix “SOUND:" "VOICE:' and "MUSIC:"
*Title Page
  • Cast
**Cast sub-tab displays "Cast of Characters" page (typically follows the title page)
    • Cast of Characters - add Cast of Characters section to bottom of title page
    • Cast of Characters - displays in Page Layout Preview (server-side)
    • Cast of Characters - included in local print output (on separate page)

Text Editor

We have added new features for controlling the fonts and layout.

  • Select multiple fonts
  • Increase/decrease font
  • Change font
  • Add strike-thru style
  • Numbered list
  • Bulleted list
  • Align left, centre, right, flush
  • Adjust document width (USLetter/A4)
  • Zoom (50% - 200%)

Screenplay Editor

Dual Dialogue

A Dual Dialogue feature has been added that works in conjunction with the TypeSet feature.

Highlite two Characters and their respective Dialog elements (only two at a time but you can do multiple selections to create stacked Dual Dialogs) that you want to display as DD and click on the DD icon in the tool bar (next to the ‘Note’ button). An icon will show up in the editor next to the DD. Running the TypeSet will then provide the DD layout for local printing or generating a PDF.

New Zoom options

Right Click Contextual Formatting

New Keyboard short cuts

  • Alt-S will short cut to the Script Menu
  • Ctrl (arrow up or arrow down) will navigate scene by scene

Stageplay Editor

Dual Dialog

  • Add dual dialog icon to screenplay editor toolbar
  • Allow selection/de-selection of dual dialog
  • Add a style hint to the editor to indicate dual dialog

Title Page

Cast Page

  • Cast tab displays "Cast of Characters" page (typically follows the title page)

Cast of Characters

  • Added Cast of Characters section to bottom of title page
  • Displays in Page Layout Preview (server-side)
  • Included in local print output (on separate page)

TYPESET FEATURE - NEW!

Perhaps the most innovative feature to be added to 995 is the LaTex enabled TypeSet.

LaTex is a powerful typesetting tool that provides superior formatting controls. We’ve taken the complexity out of using LaTex by having the Celtx Server do all the formatting for you. Lots of formatting options are provided (eg. Mores/Continueds, Scene Numbering, Paper size etc.)

You no longer have to sign in to use Typeset and create a PDF and we’ve added SSL encryption for private and secure data transmission.

Typeset Toolbar options Many of the Formatting Options provided in the Typeset feature are common to all editors.

  • Save PDF
  • Zoom in/out (50% - 200%)
  • Page Counter/ Page Navigation

NEW STORYBOARD FEATURES

Creatives can now add images to sequences in batches, as well as play selected sequences in the Viewer.

MISCELLANEOUS FEATURES

Single File Format (.celtx file)

  • New projects use a .celtx file
  • The dot celtx file contains the entire project
  • 0991 and prior projects replace application folder with a .celtx file
  • Selecting .celtx file opens the project

Drag & Drop Document Management

You can now drag and drop documents from one project in to another. Select a document in your Project Library (eg. a prop form) and drag it in to the Library of another Project. The drop needs to be positioned immediately below another item (so between items will work too), whereupon a single grey bar will appear to indicate the drop is accepted. Dropping onto folders or in the middle of white space won't work.

PLEASE NOTE:

There is a bug related to this feature in that it only includes the last saved changes when the document is dropped. So it's advised to save first, then drag and drop the document. This bug will be fixed in the next point release which is due mid- October.

Copy Project Item

You can make a copy of any Project item (right-click)

Project Templates

  • You can make your own Project template (under ‘File…).
  • New Project Templates will appear in the New Splash Page.

Save Options Settings

WEB SERVICES TABS

We added a new versioning system - Snapshots, and new options for tagging your Project for genre, language (as in English, French, Italian etc.) and to request reviews. A new Inbox Tab in the Web Services provides a history of any notification messages.

Home

Displays information regarding the status of the project, including who the ‘Owner’ is, determined by who was first to post the Project to the Celtx server, and the date of the last update.

Share

This feature is used to collaborate with members of a team. Use 'Add' or 'Remove members', to and from a project to authorize access to the Project.

Publish

You can publish project to Project Central as either:

  • Limited – only you and authorized team members will have access
  • Public – your Project will appear on Project Central for Public viewing and comments.

Under 'Configure your Project', you can add the following information and media to any Project published to Project Central:

  • Tag Line
  • Project Description
  • Genre
  • Request for reviews (Public only)
  • Language

Snapshots (Versioning)

A new versioning feature, called Snapshots, has been added.

A snapshot creates a "tagged" version of the last uploaded version of the project. It is a named, saved point-in-time of your project that you can download.

Once you have Uploaded a Project to the Celtx Server you can create and name a 'Snapshot' of the Project. Note that the option to "Save a snapshot of the most recently uploaded version of this project" means exactly that -- you are not snapshotting the local version you are working on. Neither are you necessarily snapshotting the version you last downloaded. If you are sharing the project with one or more collaborators they may have made revisions, additions and/or deletions since you last saw it.

The Snapshot will be preserved on the Server. You can then continue to add, edit and Upload your Project to the Server, knowing you can revert back to the Snapshot at any time.

Workflow Example with Snapshots (single user project)

In this workflow example the user has decided to label the 2nd uploaded version as the "First Draft" and the 4th uploaded version as the "Second Draft".

  • Day 1
    • Upload Project (version 1)
  • Day 2
    • Upload Project (version 2)
    • Create Snapshot "First Draft"

Day 3

    • Upload Project (version 3)
  • Day 4
    • Upload Project (version 4)
    • Create Snapshot "Second Draft"

Workflow Example with Snapshots (shared project)

In this workflow example you will notice all members of a project have equal access to the snapshot feature.

  • Day 1 - USER #1
    • Create project
    • Upload Project (version 1)
    • Create snapshot "Initial Concepts"
    • Share project with USER #2
  • Day 2 - USER #2
    • Download project (version 1)
    • Edit Project
    • Upload Project (version 2)
    • Create Snapshot "Re-work of Initial Concepts"
  • Day 3 USER #1
    • Download project (version 2)
    • Edit Project
    • Upload Project (version 3)
    • Create Snapshot "First draft of script"
  • Day 4 USER #2
    • Download project (version 3)
    • Edit Project
    • Upload Project (version 4)
    • Create Snapshot "Second draft of script"

BEST PRACTICE FOR SHARED PROJECTS: For all shared projects it is strongly advised that users download the latest version of the project before making edits and re-uploading the changes to the server. A useful convention might be a voluntary agreement between contributors that updates occur in a known sequential order that is coordinated by the original author of the project.

Inbox

Your Inbox displays a history of any notification messages you have received (eg. that a Project you are collaborating on has been updated).
